Dollhouse, 2009.
Format: Digital Video, color, HD 1920 x 1080 px, stereo, 6’38 min.

“Dollhouse” explores feelings of loneliness and depression. The person in the video has lost all desire to do anything, even move. She doesn’t feel any connection to the space and objects around her. She doesn’t know how to interact with them becoming as useless as the furniture. She becomes an object, and objects don’t have a function by themselves if they are not used or related to a subject (a person). In the video there are two arms that are cleaning and rearranging the furniture. The hands are constantly moving, performing actions, changing things around and treating the woman as part of the furniture. The hands represent the part of the person that still wants to get out of the depressive state, even if it is by obsessing about something else, like cleaning. This is only a temporary solution; it doesn’t really help her move since all that the hands can really do is make her momentarily forget.
